China Red Cross donates to Uganda Red Cross

The items were donated by the China Red Cross Society and channelled to Uganda through the China Sinopharm International Corporation.

 

The Chinese Embassy in Uganda has handed over items worth $202,300 (sh1b) to Uganda Red Cross Society.

 The items were donated by the China Red Cross Society and channelled to Uganda through the China Sinopharm International Corporation, a privately owned company that coordinated the transportation of the goods up to the final recipient (Uganda Red Cross Society).

 The donated items include: 300 Unlined Tents, 900 Blankets, 500 Sleeping Bags, 200 Tarpaulins, 500 Cups, 500 Plates, 6 Examination beds, 6 delivery tables, 6 Electronic Sphygmomanometers, 6 Stethoscopes, 6 Autoclaves, 6 Weight Scales, 50 Wheel Chairs, 6 operating tables, 10 Desktop Computers, 10 Laptops, 10 Multifunctional Printers, 10 Digital Cameras, 5 Gasoline water pumps, 500 Quilts and 500 towel Blankets.

The items were handed over to the URCS by the Chinese Economic and Commercial Counselor in Uganda Zhau Xinfen at the Uganda Red Cross Society offices in Rubaga.

"We trust that Uganda Red Cross is the best partner to work with on humanitarian issues in this country and that they will deliver," Zhau remarked.

While receiving the donation, Uganda Red Cross Secretary General, Robert Kwesiga, appreciated the Red Cross Society of China for the good partnership shared with Uganda Red Cross over the years.

"We thank our partner National Society for the support given to URCS over the years. We thank the Chinese Embassy in Uganda for coordinating our relationship with the China National Society of China as well as China Sinopharm International Corporation whom we have worked with closely," " Kwesiga added.

The China Red Cross has donated items to Uganda Red Cross on a number of occasions specifically targeting the vulnerable communities in Manafwa district in Eastern Uganda.

 "We will use the items to serve the purpose for which they have been donated and we pledge to continue working with the China Red Cross to improve the lives of the most Vulnerable,"Kwesiga added.
