Five perish in Masaka Road accident

Police was yet to establish the identities two other people who perished in the accident

Five people have been confirmed dead and others injured in an accident which happened on Sunday evening at Kabira, Kammengo Sub County in Mpigi district. 

 

The accident occurred when a commuter taxi registration number UAX 751M ferrying passengers from Kampala to Kyotera in Rakai district was involved in a head-on collision with a Pajero registration number UAQ 770S which was heading to Kampala from Masaka. 

Mpigi District Police Commander Ahamad Kimera Sseguya, identified the deceased as Rashid Ssebunya, the taxi driver and resident of Masaka district, Robert Bwanika a resident of Masaka and Maria Nankinga. 

Police was yet to establish the identities two other people who perished in the accident. 

Some of the injured victims include, Gerald Mukasa of Masaka, Jane Sarah, Sumayiyah Nakasiita, Emmanuel Ssenyonyi, Maria Katushabe, Fortunate Nakito, Ruth Nanyanzi, Martin Ssewanyana, Annet Namuli, Beatrice Nansamba and Alafa Muyingo who was the driver of the Pajero.

The dead were all passengers in the taxi. 

This accident happened at a place just about 1km from Kampiringisa road block where a fatal accident which killed over 23 people happened in June last year. 

Eye witnesses said the accident was caused by the driver of the Pajero who was speeding while trying to overtake. 

The injured were rushed to Mpigi Health Centre IV where they got first aid and were later rushed to Mulago Hospital for further treatment.
