Museveni meets Qatar Foundation chairperson

DOHA - President Yoweri Museveni met with Her Highness Sheikha Mouza bint Nasser, the chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

He was accompanied by his wife Janet, who is also the minister of education and sports. They met at the foundation's offices in Doha, Qatar.

The establishment is a semi-private, non-profit organization founded in 1995 by then Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and his wife Bint Nasser.

The organization seeks to nurture Qatar's future leaders, supports innovation and an open society that seeks economic prosperity through knowledge acquisition.

Bint Nasser was named UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education in tribute to her outstanding commitment to the promotion of education in Qatar.

As chair of the Qatar Foundation, she has spearheaded activities and projects in basic and higher education, establishing several high quality, non-profit private schools and learning institutions for children and young people in Qatar.

In the Wednesday meeting, President Museveni presented a book on Uganda's tourism potential to his host.

The two agreed that Uganda and Qatar establish a joint think-tank that will look at furthering the two countries' connectivity through language, culture and religion.

Uganda, the meeting agreed, would send a delegation to Qatar to study its technical education system focusing on new technologies in water and energy.

Qatar will in turn send a team to Uganda to appreciate its technical education and see ways of supporting it.
