Kabafunzaki aide faces fresh charges

Mugabo had initially been charged with being an accessory after accepting hiding sh5m bribe on behalf of Kabafunzaki.

The IGG has slapped fresh charges of corruption and conspiracy to Brain Mugabo, the political aide of the State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Herbert Kabafunzaki.

 

Mugabo had initially been charged with being an accessory after accepting hiding sh5m bribe on behalf of Kabafunzaki. 

 

Yesterday in court, prosecutor Barbra Kavuma presented an amended charge sheet containing the corruption charges after informing court that Mugabo had sworn an affidavit informing court that he did not understand the charges he pleaded to on April 11, 2017.

 

According to the new charges, Mugabo is said to to have conspired with Kabafunzaki and a one Bruce Lubowa  and solicited sh15m from the proprietor of Aya group of companies ; Muhammed Muhammed Hamid.

 

It is alleged that the accused were arrested and found with sh5m which Mugabo had hid behind Serena Hotel curtain. 

 

The money was an inducement to clear Hamid of sexual harassment allegations levied against him by his employee.
