KCCA closes in on league leaders SC Villa

KCCA FC didn't play like the team that is going to face top Egyptian side Al-Masry in the Confederation Cup, but returned to winning ways against Bright Stars in the Azam Uganda Premier League match at the Phillip Omondi Stadium on Tuesday.

But that doesn't worry coach Mike Mutebi who believes his boys will play better on Saturday.

"The performance was not satisfactory but we got the result, sometimes you have to through such spells; the players are thinking about Al-Masry, are warry of injuries, knocks, but the result was important.

It gives them more belief for Saturday and they will play better," Mutebi said after the 2-1 win over Bright stars.

KCCA FC opened the scoring from a controversial penalty scored by the league top scorer Geoffrey Serunkuma who notched his 15 goal of the season, after winger Brian Majwega was adjudged to have been fouled by Bright Stars defender Abdurnoor Kanaana.

But five minutes later a Victor Aweko well-taken strike levelled matters for Bright Stars who were the better side on the day, for a 1-1 half time score.

In the second half relentless KCCA FC pressure paid off when Bright Stars defender Innocent Asiimwe aided a Paul Mucureezi effort into his own net for the winner that brought them closer to within one point of leaders SC Villa who are on 46 points.

Bright Stars coach Fred Kajoba blamed the loss on referee David Oula's officiation and the lack of proper preparation for his side.

"We are not training the way we should because we don't have the resources to have daily training, and we have gone nine months without pay so we are struggling but we are working hard to avoid the drop," Kajoba said.
