Richard Ssempebwa: Ex-Uganda cricketer dies

Ssempebwa, who passed away Saturday night, was suffering from cancer.

KAMPALA - Former Cricket Cranes opening batsman Richard Ssempebwa, best known as Zampa (pictured), will be laid to rest Monday in Gombe, Wakiso district.

Ssempebwa, who passed away Saturday night, was suffering from cancer.

Two requiem services were to be held, with one at All Saints Cathedral and the second right before his burial.

Ssempebwa enjoyed some of his finest years at Wanderers Cricket Club.

"He will be remembered as the nicest, most welcoming, happy, jolly person," said long-time friend and current Uganda Cricket Association board member Paul Nsibuka.

"Richard was a very talented sportsman who never used the full potential of his talent."
