Uganda 3rd after Africa Junior Championships 2nd round

National amateur junior golf team rookie David Kamulindwa remained Uganda's best player after the second round action atthe Africa Junior Golf Championship in Zimbabwe on Wednesday.

Despite returning a six-over-par 78, the 16 year old with an overall three-over-par, is placed fifth overall in the individual standings.

But it was Captain Dennis Asaba with two birdies and 12 pars that produced the best round score of 73 gross in the second round to propel Uganda to third place going into the third round action at the Royal Harare Golf Club.

Herman ‘Deco' Mutebi and Joel Basalaine were good for 73 and 78 respectively in the annual championship that has attracted 12 countries.

Zimbabwe's Justin Kersten who led the individuals scores with a five-under-par 67 after the first round also slipped to third overall and was overtaken by South Africa's Luca Filippi and Jayden Schaper who are -3 and -1 overall, after a one-under-par 71 and a two-over-par 73 score respectively.

Defending champions South Africa now have a two-stroke lead as action continues with the third round on Thursday.

Other countries participating in the event include Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Tunisia and Zambia.

The tournament doubles as a qualifier to the Toyota World Junior Golf Championships which will be held in Japan in June.

The top two teams from the Africa tournament automatically qualify for the Japan event.
