Uganda's Kyakonye knocks out Dutch opponent

It took Kyakonye only a minute and twenty seconds to put Fonseca out in Amsterdam.

Willy Kyakonye is steadily following in boxing legend John Mugabi's footsteps.

On Sunday night he knocked out Netherlands's Gino de Fonseca and immediately earned Mugabi"s nickname "The Beast". Kyakonye's record now stands at four wins with two knockouts.

It took Kyakonye only a minute and twenty seconds to put Fonseca out in Amsterdam as an ecstatic crowd chanted " The Beast!" "The Beast!".

The former Lukanga Boxing Club fighter, now based in Amsterdam, was in charge right from the gong unleashing combinations before a deadly right floored the homeboy.

There was even more to the Mugabi-Kyakonye likeness.

As Fonseca went down he sprained a leg just like Mugabi's 1989 light middle weight title win over Frenchman Rene Jacquot.

"Expect more such victories, " said Kyakonye's former trainer Zebra Ssenyange.

Fonseca had gone three fights without a loss. Kyakonye returns to the ring in April against an opponent yet to be named Kyakonye is an All Africa Games bronze medalist. He has been featuring in the AIBA World Series.
