Cranes are preparing for two friendly matches this week

Uganda Cranes striker Emmanuel Okwi is optimistic his role as captain of the team that beat the Eastern Region select side 3-0 in the first regional tour the year, has set the platform for a return to the national team.

Okwi, who will form the core of coach Milutin Sredojevic’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) team in Nairobi, talked up his chances.

"I take this great opportunity for me. It is serious for me. I hope something will work out of it for me,” the striker said.

Okwi who was a regular with the Cranes team has been out of the picture but his goal scoring exploits for SC Villa since returning from a stint in Denmark early this year, has seen an upturn in fortunes.

Okwi struggled to get to grips with the dusty pitch in Kamuli but later settled into the contest.

"The ground affected my play at the beginning of match but I went on to adjust" the striker who scored the third goal with a well-executed free-kick before the end of the first half said.

Micho is optimistic that Okwi will make the list of eight players that will be selected from the tour to join the Uganda Cranes side to play more friendly matches ahead of CHAN.

Cranes are preparing for two friendly matches this week against the French military team at Namboole and Kenya's Harambee Stars in Nairobi.

Nelson Senkatuka volleyed in to give Uganda Cranes their lead in the 11the minute before Martin Kizza doubled the lead from a set piece followed by Okwi’s strike.

Micho urged top flight sides to take a chance on the players that formed the Eastern region select side saying they have great potential.
