Aswa project donates sh70m in medical equipment

The donation was a way of giving back to the community

Angagura Health Centre III in Pader district has received medical equipment worth sh70m from the developer of Aswa Hydropower project (PP2).

The 100 megawatt power dam is being constructed by Aswa River Power Energy (ARPE). The construction of the Hydro Power dam in Aswa River, near Lateng Hill in Angagura sub county in Pader district.

The equipment donated by ARPE includes; blood pressure machines, vein compressor, microscopes, bed sheets, blankets and medical instrument trolleys.

Others are Braun stadler, episiotomy scissor, speculum vagina cusso, umbilical cord scissor, hermocue, centrifuges electric tubes, blood glucose mooting system and refrigerators among others.

Felix Tukahiirwa, The Environmental and Social Governance Manager ARPE said the donation was a way of giving back to the community in whose area they are working.

"The donation was for provision of health service in Angagura and Pader district where we are working" he said.

Tukahiirwa said they will also connect electricity and build outpatient department at Angagura health centre and Aswa Ranch health centre II.

Hellen Apecho, the head of community program ARPE said they have selected 20 girls who sat PLE exams, but their parents cannot afford to pay school fees to get scholarship under the ARPE girl child education scholarship program.

She added that 20 girls were selected from sub counties of Paicho in Gulu, Angagura and Atanga in Pader that where Aswa River project is operating.

Apecho said they are processing their tuition fees and they will be enrolling them in secondary schools soon since all of them have got their admission letters.

"We will pay these girls in schools of their wish and we will pay for them up to the university level so long as they are ready to study" she added.

Apecho said they also identified 21 boreholes that broke down in Angagura Sub County for rehabilitation and spring wells to be protected.
