Mayanja Nkangi to be buried on Friday

Ahead of the interment, Nkangi's body will be taken to Mengo then to Parliament for members to pay their last respects.

KAMPALA - Fallen former Ugandan minister Jehoash Mayanja Nkangi will be laid to rest this Friday, according to his family.

He will be buried in his home district of Kalungu in southern Central Uganda.

Tributes have continued to flow for the former finance and justice minister who died aged 85 on Monday at Nakasero Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.

He had been for some time undergoing treatment for pneumonia pending transfer to India for further treatment.

Meanwhile, it is understood government will meet all his burial and medical bills.

According to the burial arrangements schedule released by the family, the former Buganda prime minister's body will be taken to Mengo on Wednesday for members of the Buganda Lukiiko to pay their last respects.

The following day, Thursday, Mayanja Nkangi's body will be taken to St. Luke Ntinda for a funeral service before proceeding to parliament where his body will lie in state.

Later that day, there will be a special parliament sitting for legislators to pay tribute to the former Kalungu West MP.

Government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa said that Mayanja Nkangi will be laid to rest on Friday in Kalungu.
