Nemostars win delayed 2016 Ndejje Open title

Mar 06, 2017

The original final at Ndejje University in February last year had failed to conclude.

Nemostars Volleyball Club are Champions of the Ndejje Open Volleyball Championship whose final had been delayed for a year.  They beat Sky Volleyball Club 3-2.

The Luwero side emerged from two sets down on Sunday to overcome Sky and lift the 2016 Ndejje Open trophy at the replayed final that the organisers shifted to MUBS.

The original final at Ndejje University in February last year failed to conclude because of darkness and both clubs agreed to postpone it.

With youthful Cuthbert Malinga in fine form during this pre-season, Sky led Nemostars by two sets. But tables turned when Nemostars came to life in the third set to stretch to 11-9 and indeed won it 25-17.

Nemostars team Captain George Aporu managed to escape the block the Sky VC team enjoyed in the first and second sets. Nemostars won 25-23 to force a decisive set which they went on to win 15-11.

Next on the Uganda Volleyball Federation calendar is the All Girls Volleyball Championship in Namugongo this weekend before the 2017 Ndejje Open tournament in Luwero on March 18-19.
