The party is to elect a new president in November this year

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has refuted allegations that some party officials are pushing for amendment of the party constitution to allow Dr Kiiza Besigye contest for the party's top most position.

The party is to elect a new president in November this year.

FDC deputy secretary general, Harold Kaija said the sitting party president, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu still has another term and can contest again in November if he saw wishes.

Kaija speaking to New Vision in an interview explained that Besigye served his two terms and can never stand again for the same position because the constitution does not allow him.

"We have already made a roadmap ahead of the party president elections and we have nothing like amending our party constitution. Our party is clear that all members serve for two terms in each position and are allowed to serve in other positions if they so wish," he said.

"We want to clear air that the party has no such arrangement to amend the constitution. We feel contended with our provisions in party constitutions" he added.

Kaija on Monday described reports of talks between Besigye and President Yoweri Museveni as lies only meant to tarnish the party's name.

"That is a lie! Besigye has not accepted any dialogue with President Museveni. There is no agreement as far as we know. It is just propaganda which has been going on; initiated by some people for their own interests" the party's deputy secretary general, Harold Kaija told journalists.
