The RDC said that it has been discovered that most men in Kamuli don’t take care of their families leaving all the responsibility to their wives.

Men in Kamuli district have been advised to take responsibility for their families especially when wives are pregnant.

The call was made by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Kamuli district Moses Dumba who was addressing people who were attending the UNICEF Early Childhood Development (ECD) community activation event at Kamuli district headquarters playground recently.

The RDC said that it has been discovered that most men in Kamuli don't take care of their families leaving all the responsibility to their wives.

"This is wrong, the man is the head of the family so they are supposed to take responsibility for the home, however most men don't fulfil their responsibility. They leave the burden of taking care of the family to the wives. So why are you called men when you can't take care of your home," he said.

Dumba added that if a man is not ready to take care of the family then it is better they don't tamper until they are ready.

He advised men to stop being careless when their wives are pregnant because this affects even the child in the womb.

"The pain inflicted on the pregnant woman affects the child's brain too. It is clear that the child's brain is affected from the time of conception to eight years, this calls for the two parents to always be very careful at this stage," he noted.

He added that parents must ensure that in the first eight years, there is a connection that is aimed at raising a healthy and normal child.

He reminded the parents that their responsibility is to see that all children are alive, and this will only be possible if the parents ensure that they go for antenatal care very often to get the first treatment for a pregnant woman.

"Some parents have a tendency of visiting the hospitals once and that is all, however you should know that there are always changes that  frequently occur to a woman who is pregnant. So there is need for parents to ensure that they follow the card because this will ensure that both the mother and the baby are fine," he noted.
