US officials pledge support for agriculture

Meg Hilbert, the vice-president of the American Chamber of Commerce, has said they are committed to having Ugandan entrepreneurs getting the American agricultural technology experience to boost production and trade opportunities.                       

He said this while officials from the chamber of commerce and the US embassy were on a tour of a farm belonging to Vision Group Chief executive officer, Robert Kabushenga on Friday morning. The farm is located in Namayumba sub-county, Wakiso district.

Omar Farooq, the Economic and Commercial Officer at US Embassy says  Uganda has the potential to harness its agricultural sector if farmers use the good farming practices and know the right technology to use.

On his part, Kabushenga says farming is the way to go, saying farmers need to commit time towards the practice if they are to benefit from it.

He advises farmers to employ technologies like irrigation, for better productivity.                       

Kabushenga, who runs a solar powered irrigation system, which enables him to produce all year round, grows bananas and coffee.

Andrew Lentz a consul for economic and political affairs at American embassy, advises Ugandan to do agriculture as business and seek partnerships with other farmers.
