The appeal is presided over by a quorum of three judges

The Constitutional Court has today started hearing a petition by Rubaga South Member of Parliament, Kato Lubwama seeking to block an election petition filed against him by a one Habib Buwembo.

The petition comes after Buwembo was allowed to file a petition even after the mandatory three months had expired by civil court judge, Margret Oumo Oguli.

Lubwama through his lawyers tried to block the court's decision but vain which forced them file an appeal in the Constitutional Court.

The appeal is presided over by a quorum of three judges led by the deputy Chief Justice, Steven Kavuma, Barishaki Cheborion and Helen Obura.

Lubwama is represented by lawyers, Caleb Alaka, Samuel Muyizi and Nalukoola Luyimbazi while Buwembo is represented by lawyers, Isaac Ssemakadde, Aaron Kiiza and Peter Kibirango.

Buwembo in August filed the petition seeking to be allowed to file an election petition against Lubwama's election as MP.

He contends that Kato Lubwama lacks the minimum qualifications to hold the position.
