Minister Kabafunzaki, NGO boss clash over Onion Seedlings

Rugambwa argued that her programme is not connected with Rukiga politics and added that the MP should not interfere in matters that don’t concern him.

State minister for labour and also Rukiga county Member of Parliament Herbert Kabafunzaki has clashed with Peace Rugambwa  the chairperson of Bona bagagawale-Nyekundeire group. Speaking to Journalists at her home in Rwahi-Kayonza on Monday (6/2/2017), Rugambwa said that Minister Kabafunzaki is trying to sabotage her programmes in Rukiga County of supplying onion seeds to residents.

Rugambwa argued that her programme is not connected with Rukiga politics and added that the MP should not interfere in matters that don't concern him.She added that, her programme of onion growing covers Kigezi and Ankole regions and not only Rukiga county.

She explained that her Bona bagagawale-Nyekundeire Group was registered as a nongovernmental organization (Ngo), so it can operate without the authorization by the Rukiga area MP Kabafunzaki.

When contacted for a comment, Kabafunzaki said, if Rugambwa wants to deliver her services to the people of Rukiga she should not ask them for a membership fee of sh12,000 because his people cannot afford that money and that the onion seedlings should be supplied for free since her NGO operates under the government's Operation Wealth Creation. He also denied the allegations of threatening to harm her.
