The Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi has appealed to schools to invest more in developing infrastructures that will enhance students' academic performance.
He said though some schools start small with financial constraints, they can still grow if they prioritize investment in areas that will spur academic excellence.
Sekandi on Friday was launching a students' library for Light Secondary and Vocational School in Bulenga in Wakiso district which was named after him for his generous contribution and fundraising to towards its formation with a seating capacity of over 1,500 students.
He said he has seen this school growing from one classroom with less than ten students to an enrollment of 1,600 students and employs about 300 people including the surrounding local community.
However the director of the school Salongo Joseph Mbuga said the ministry of education should revisit the criteria for closing schools that do not conform to the required standards and instead collaborate with the schools administration to put things right.
"School inspectors shouldn't treasure closure of schools that that are in poor condition but instead collaborate with management to bring about sanity . Most of good schools have come a long way with some started in motor garages and under tree-sheds ," said Mbuga.
Pr.Samuel Kajoba the bishop of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Central Uganda during the thanksgiving service applauded Sekandi for being positive towards developmental projects.
