Experts worry of increasing intestinal cancer

Experts have expressed worry of the increasing rate of the intestinal cancer saying that it might take over as the leading killing cancer disease.

"This kind of cancer is that which presents with normal stomachaches, diarrhea, loss of weight

 But which most people take it for granted leaving the situation to grow out of hand," The Executive Director of African Centre for Global Health and Social Transformation (ACHEST) Dr. Francis Omaswa said.

He was speaking during the flagging off of the Frida Omaswa lecture that is taking place Wednesday at the Imperial Royale in Kampala.

The Frida Omaswa lecture is going to be hosted for the first time in remembrance of late Professor Frida Omaswa who passed on a year ago from colon cancer.

The function is expected to be graced by the Vice President Edward Ssekandi.

Worldwide Intestinal cancer is the fourth leading killer cancer disease. And though there is no compiled statistics on  this kind of cancer, experts can prove that Intestinal cancer disease is a worry.

Omaswa attributed the increase in the disease to both genetical and environmental factors.

Prof Clement Frederick Kiire  a Gastroenterologist  from United Kingdom  said the incidence is becoming more common especially among the middle class.

"This is the class that is adopting to life styles like smoking, eating junk foods among others," he said.
