Kumi district education department closed the private nursery and primary schools for not meeting the required standards

Kanyum County MP Ismail Orot has accused education authorities in the district for closing 16 private nursery and primary schools.

Orot told Etop Radio that closing the schools is not a good decision because the schools in question performed exceptionally well in the recently released PLE results compared to some schools.

Orot faulted the decision describing it harsh and appealed to the education department to revise their decision to close the schools and rather advise them on how to improve their standards.

Kumi district education department closed the private nursery and primary schools for not meeting the required standards while others were given a period of 6 months to improve on their standards or else risk closure.

However, Alex Ongolinyang the Kumi secretary for health, education and social services said this was government policy for not only Kumi but also countrywide and that the education department was doing its duty.
