UYFL Inter Cities U-17 football tournament reaches final bend

The Uganda Youth Football League Inter Cities U-17 football tournament finalists have more reason to work on their game after the tournament received another major boost ahead of the finals on January 18-21.

Nakawa based Elite Agencies Company has in Corporate Social Responsibility gesture donated sh3m, trophies, balls and medals to be given out to outstanding players and teams, during the four-day tournament finals due at Villa Park and Police Children School grounds.

Zam Nabitalo the Managing Director of the customs clearing and forwarding agents handed over the items to UYFL Chairman Moses Kibirango at Nakawa on Monday ahead of the finals.

"We have come in to try and bridge the gap between the poor kids and the rich, because there are so many talented youth from the grassroots; so we came in to support them develop their talents," Nabitalo said.

"There is need to develop talent from the grassroots, so we call on other companies to support such ventures so that we can help in the nurturing of Uganda's future stars. We need to encourage the youth to expose and develop their talent early," Nabitalo reasoned.

In the finals, Kampala will parade four seeded teams from Kamwokya, Wankulukuku, Nabweru and Nakawa with the rest coming from the different Centers of Excellence that include Kibuli, Wankulukuku, Kasanga-KCCA, Kayida, Bulamu Children Center, Wakiso, Entebbe, Katanga, Nakawa and Luzira.

Over 300 players (16 teams) from the above centers will take part in the finals, where 60 others will be selected for a training camp in preparation for the Dubai Super Cup and Gothia tournaments in Sweden.

There will be a golden boot award for the top scorer, MVP awards, as well as bursaries for the most talented players on top of a chance to go for soccer trials with some of the top academies in Europe.
