The remains of 52 unidentified bodies of some of the people killed in November in Kasese are still unclaimed, more than a month after they were buried in Kasese.

Police buried the bodies on Rukoki Prison farm land in Nyamwamba Division on December 4, 2016.

The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Suwed Manshur, said only two people had showed up at the regional police headquarters saying they were still missing their relatives.

"We have advised them to either wait for our pathologist to come and take their DNA samples or go to Kampala, suggesting they should avoid travelling to Kampala because it is too expensive ," Manshur said this week.

The 52 were buried in separate graves in a mapped cemetery with labeled mark stones to ease future identification when relatives turn up to claim them guided by DNA results.

The Mbarara-based Uganda People's defence Forces (UPDF) Second Division Commander, Brigadier Peter Elwelu, who commanded the joint operation with Police, said that the 52 bodies include those of Congolese militia group, the Mai Mai.
