“Many schools are mushrooming but very few are licensed,” Nadiope said, adding that unlicensed schools tend to affect the learners’ future since they are uncertain of their existence in the near future.

The Mayuge district education officer, William Nadiope has vowed to close all unlicensed schools and illegal boarding sections.

Nadiope said a number of private schools were operating illegally. He added that such schools have gone ahead to establish mini boarding sections for pupils yet they don't have the basic requirements as per the ministry of education guidelines.

He was speaking during a meeting of directors and head teachers of private schools at Bunya secondary school in Mayuge district. Nadiope said that such schools will be closed to protect the pupils' future.

"Many schools are mushrooming but very few are licensed," Nadiope said, adding that unlicensed schools tend to affect the learners' future since they are uncertain of their existence in the near future.

Nadiope said there are over 400 schools but only very few are licensed. He said adding with effect from next year, unlicensed schools will not be allowed to operate.

Nadiope warned teachers against defilement and said that a number of girls especially in primary schools have been defiled by their teachers.
