Dennis Onyango's Mamelodi Sundowns finished sixth at the FIFA World Cup championship at the Suita City Football Stadium, Osaka in Japan.

The African giants went down 4-1 to Korean champions Jeonbuk Hyundai to end their campaign at the FIFA World Cup championship in the game Cranes keeper Onyango was part of.

Kim Bokyung, Lee Jongho's and Shinwook each had a goal for Jeonbuk Hyundai before Mamelodi Sundowns defender Richardo Nascimento put the ball in his own net. Percy Tau scored a consolation for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowms lost 2-0 to Kashima Antlers in the opening game of the campaign. Mamelodi Sundowns took part in the FIFA World Cup championship after winning 2016 CAF Champions League.

They were crowned winners of the top football event in Africa after a 3-1 aggregate defeat of former champions Zamalek SC of Egypt in Alexandria.
