Makerere lecturers meet, to get November salary

Makerere university lecturers under the umbrella body, Makerere university academic staff association (MUASA) will today meet in a general assembly to deliberate on council resolutions reached at, on Tuesday.

Lecturers are to decide whether to call off a strike or not. On Tuesday council held a consultative meeting with MUASA executive and resolved to pay November salary, half of December and one month incentive.

Dr. Deus Muhwezi the MUASA spokesperson said; "the fact is that the executive members present accepted that the council "offer" be scrutiny of the General Assembly of the Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA). This is and remains the supreme meeting of MUASA and the executive respects all its decisions."

He added that MUASA executive did not agree to call off the strike.

 "We maintain that the offer letter contains proposals of the council that will be presented to the emergency general assembly today at 2pm at Makerere University Main Hall," he added.

"We also agreed on preconditions before putting the offer on the order paper of the emergency general assembly. These preconditions have to be met before the emergency general assembly at 2pm in order to allow the offer on the floor for appraisal," he clarified.
