Kaweesi called on the public to be vigilant at all times

In an effort to avert any criminal activities during the festive season, Police have intensified deployment in different parts of the country.

Addressing journalists at the police weekly press briefing in Kampala on Monday, the spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi said police together with other security agencies are already working together to mount serious operations.

"We are using both overt and covert security personnel to prevent criminality that may happen during the festive season. We are on high alert. Criminality comes in different forms ranging from pickpocketers to burglaries, thefts of goods and properties in transit and fraudulent deals among others," he noted.

He said they want to make sure that no criminal takes advantage of innocent citizens during this period.

"A lot of activities are already taking place in trade and movement of people. That's why we are alert for criminals not to scare away people," he noted.

Kaweesi called on the public to be vigilant at all times and report any strangers to the responsible authorities within their vicinity.

He also cautioned travelers to avoid carrying huge sums of money, advising them to use banks and other related money transfers. He said cash is an attraction to criminals and very common during the festive season.
