Kyomuhendo needs sh120m for kidney transplant

 Kyomuhendo in her good old times.

It started like a mild fever as the days went by, Hellen Kyomuhendo's condition just worsened. "Breathing became a problem and I started to vomit with fierce chest pain," she says.

Kyomuhendo first thought it was malaria until an ultra-sound scan discovered that the 27-year- old mother had kidney failure. All this happened in May this year. Kyomuhendo received treatment from Norvik hospital in Kampala since then. This is the most devastating situation in Kyomuhendo's family.

At Norvik, Kyomuhendo has been undergoing treatment, among other procedures that involve dialysis two times a week.

According to Dr.Robert Kalyesubula, a Nephrology at Mulago Hospital dialysis costs sh270, 000 per session and sh700, 000 a month. "This money does not include drugs and immune boasters among other hospital requirements," he explains.

This has been the most difficult time for Kyomuhendo's family who are now praying and asking for financial assistance in order to save her life.

We have so far spent sh50m on treatment and more is still needed.

On September, 9, 2016, Dr. Kalyesubula referred Kyomuhendo to India for a kidney transplant.

This is the only option which will enable her live a better life although very expensive.

 According to a quotation from the institute of kidney diseases and research center in Gujarat, India where Kyomuhendo has been referred for the transplant, the entire procedure, including travel and upkeep for the patient will cost $35,000 (sh120m).
