Christians of Christ the King Church, Kampala have in the past two months raised sh500m towards the renovation and extension of their church. This implies that only sh1.5bn is still needed, in order to have all the sh9bn, which is required for the entire project.

This was revealed by the parish priest of Christ the King Church, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Gerald Kalumba, during the celebrations for the Catholic Feast of Christ the King, which were held at the church on Sunday.

"I am happy to inform you that we have managed to collect sh500m since October. Previously we already had about sh7bn on the account. We therefore still have to collect sh1.5bn to be sure that our project will be fully completed. I request you to continue contributing money towards the project. The contractors are working hard to ensure that the work is completed in 78 weeks as planned."

Kalumba later informed the congregation that the contractors (Seyani Brothers Uganda Ltd) had already started the work of enlarging the city Church. "We have already handed over part of the church's premises to the contractors. Currently the presbytery has been demolished and also blocked to us. We now live in a rented flat opposite the Church. The offices have also been shifted to the parish-community center."
