Municipal officials detained over Mbarara Taxi Park tender

Parliamentary Accounts Committee chairman said taxi park tenders are supposed to take one year

Police in Mbarara on the orders of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) on local government are holding three senior Mbarara Municipality officers. 

The trio was arrested when they showed up before the committee and gave unsatisfactory explanations over the state of Mbarara Taxi Park tender. 

The arrested are Jackline Masambu the deputy town clerk, Richard Kerere the finance officer and Edgar Rwabutwagu the procurement officer. 

During the meeting at Mbarara district headquarters in Kamukuzi, Masambu said they awarded the tender to Mbarara United Taxi Owners and Drivers Association on a 5 year contract with a sh16m weekly revenue. 

In his remarks, Reagan Okumu, the PAC chairman said taxi park tenders are supposed to take one year.

He added that the officers must also explain the delayed road works in the municipality under the USMAID project
