Unidentified armed thugs on Sunday morning shot a 42 year old Efrance Uzamukunda a resident of Mulora Village, Muramba Sub-county, Kisoro district. She was taken to Mutolere Hospital in Kisoro district where she is nursing wounds .

Eye witnesses said that she was attacked by gun wielding men at Kibugu trading centre near Kibugu Church of Uganda.

The place is about seven miles from the Uganda -Democratic Republic of Congo border. They also said, she was taking an 8-year old sick boy to Kisoro Hospital when the assailants attacked her.

Kisoro District Police Commander, Edgar Akankwasa confirmed the incident. "We were informed about the attack, rushed to the scene and intelligence is being gathered so that the culprits are arrested", he said.

Hajji Shafiq Sekandi, the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner attributed the numerous cases of armed robberies to the abnormal presence of fire arms in the district. He said the district security committee recently resolved that the Police headquarters in Kampala deploys officers in Kisoro for thorough investigation of murder and gun related cases.

He also told New Vision that recently, about 13 people from Kisoro were arrested in connection with different robberies and murder cases. "The Police Flying Squad took them to Kampala for further investigations," Hajji Sekandi said.

Sekandi suspects insecurity in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo to be the source of guns being used by criminals in Kisoro.
