Mao accuses Olanya of double standards

Nov 15, 2016

The centre of the accusing is a Madhvani sugar project.

Democratic Party president general Nobert Mao (pictured) has lashed out at Kilak South MP (Amuru district) Gilbert Olanya for having double standards, as regards the Madhvani sugar project.

Mao says the renewed efforts to establish a sugar factory in the area was initiated by minister of land Betty Amongi and attended by MPs from Amuru district, who all agreed to support the project.

In an exclusive interview with Mao, he says he was surprised that Amuru leaders - more so Olanya - speak a different language when they meet President Yoweri Museveni, Madhvani, media and locals.

The DP leader's remarks were in response to Olanya's claim that Mao had joined a queue of land brokers to grab land in Lakang parish, Pabbo sub-county.

Olanya insists that if Madhvani is interested in land for investment, it should deal with the locals and not middlemen.

Attempts to hear from Minister Amongi about the claims from Olanya were futile as she could not pick our calls.
