November 14, 1980: The Uganda Times newspaper reported that a team of 35 assassins was being trained at a place 20 miles north of Nyahururu in Nyeri district in Kenya, to kill senior UPC officials.
The newspaper quoted intelligence sources as saying the training was going on at a shooting range sealed off by Kenyan security forces
The operation was reportedly under Lameck Ntambi, leader of the Uganda National Union (UNU), who had vowed to overthrow the government.
The whole plan was reportedly being supported by Kenyan leaders.
