Parents are told to focus on teaching their holiday-makers good morals.

Parents in Katakwi district have been called on to regulate movement of their children during their vacation time.

John Robert Angiro, the archdeacon of Usuk Archdeaconry based his call on the rising cases of defilement and child pregnancies among students during their vacation.

Angiro said that most of the girls get pregnant when they are given freedom to pay unnecessary visits to their relatives.

According to him, parents should focus on teaching Primary Seven and Senior Four holiday-makers good morals to prevent them from indulging in misleading behavior.

Parents were urged to take responsibility of their children and engage them in productive activities like poultry keeping, bricklaying, and others.

Robert Elungat, the officer in charge of investigations at Katakwi Central Police, urged parents to empower their children with knowledge about the law governing Uganda to reduce crime in the district.

He said most of the youth engage in crime because of ignorance of the law, adding that parents should shape their children morally in order to potentially become transparent leaders.

Local police released a monthly crime report reflecting increased cases of defilement attributed to the youth's ignorance of the law.
