Police will keep watch over closed Makerere University premises, the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura has said.

This is to guarantee the safety of university property, Kayihura explained.

All university facilities like the Tennis court, playground, and library are out of bounds for both the staff and the general public until the University is re-opened.

The guild president, Roy Ssembogga, said they are set to petition the minister of education and sports Janet Museveni over the closure.

Education and sports minister, Janet Museveni, has assured the public that the Government is undertaking necessary steps to normalise the situation.

President Yoweri Museveni on Monday ordered for closure of Makerere University embroiled with lecturers' and students' strikes since last week.

The Presidential directive issued on Tuesday evening was taken "to guarantee the safety of persons and property."
