UPC approved the appointment of their member Betty Amongi as the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development

The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) has denied being in an alliance with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The party secretary general Edward Segganyi said the party never urged its members to vote for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the general elections that were concluded in February this year.

"We asked the party members to support any presidential candidates whom they think can deliver to the country" Segganyi said while addressing the media on Wednesday at the party headquarters in Kampala.

In June, UPC approved the appointment of their member Betty Amongi as the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

UPC party president Jimmy Akena revealed that he had formed a sub-committee of his executive to negotiate the formation of an alliance with the NRM.

On the issue of Amongi's appointment, Seganyi said: "Even members from other opposition parties were appointed by President Yoweri Museveni. So, it is not about UPC only".
