Police in Kampala have arrested four men from several Kampala suburbs in connection with the kidnap of Nicole Mitala a pupil from Greenhill Academy.

Two of them were arrested from Kyebando and the other two from Kawempe Division. Police tracked them through their phones as they communicated to the parents.

"We have been monitoring these men's movements after several phone calls they made to Nicole's parents. It has not been easy getting them because they kept on switching off their phones," said Emilian Kayima, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson.

Kayima noted that they are still interrogating the suspects to find out who sent them and what their mission was.

Mitala, 6, went missing from Greenhill Academy's Buwaate campus last Tuesday evening.

An unidentified woman showed up at the school and picked her up claiming she was taking her home.

Police experts in child-related crime together with the Flying Squad carried out an operation to find her before she was found abandoned along Jinja Road in Kampala.

For fear of jeopardizing investigations Kayima said he could not reveal the suspects names and any other information about them.

Kayima urged teachers and administrators at schools to always be vigilant on who picks children from school because this is not the first time it is happening.

"We are requesting parents to teach their children not to associate with strangers, this way they will not allow the wrong people to kidnap them. Also parents should give correct and current information about themselves to their children so that when they are lost they can be able to tell their parents' names and where they stay," he said.

Efforts to get a comment from the parents and the school were futile.
