Jinja public library gets 20 E-readers and 219 digital books

In a bid to promote information among primary schools in Jinja municipality,Jinja public library has received 20 E-readers tabs and 219 digital books from the national library of Uganda.

Hellen Muyomba a librarian with the national library of Uganda while speaking to pupils from various schools said the digital project Jinja public library is one of the ten in the country to have the readers aimed at supporting municipal schools to have results into valuable services

She said the digital books are given as part of of the project that is being implemented with Book Aid international and world reader.

"This library has received 20 e-readers/kindles with 219 digital books, ten chargers, one mobile phone a safe in which to keep the readers and 900 physical books," she said adding that also two librarians have been taught to train teachers, students and children how to use them.

She explained that libraries are at the forefront of spreading well researched information and that according to the 2015 vision documentation can only be achieved if people have access to information for development of both individual and society at large.

She called upon children to use the e-readers with help of their teachers.

Livingstone Muyinda the Jinja public librarian said the readers will allow children to enjoy all the benefits of having a technology focused project, excitement in reading on daily basis.

"The e-readers and books will help the young generation read better, learn information technology and get exposed to new ideas with the changing trend," he said.

He said as the world becomes increasingly digital adults are provided with free training in computer training and other services to ensure the library users have access to technology.

He said the major challenge was electricity supply and that they now have arrears of sh4m from UMEME.
