Justine Ligyalingi Snr and Christopher Azuba have passed on

The cricket fraternity is in mourning following the death of two important figures; Justine Ligyalingi Snr and Christopher Azuba.

Ligyalingi Snr and his wife Florence lost their lives in a car accident along the Jinja Highway in Magamaga on Monday. The car they were travelling in collided with a lorry carrying sugar canes.

They are the parents of Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) CEO Justin Ligyalingi.

Ligyalingi Sr. started his teaching career at Budo Junior School where he taught a number of cricket players including Sam Walusimbi and William Kamanyi in 1963.

He also served at Narambhai Primary School before he became a sports officer in Busoga.

He dedicated most of his life to the development of sports. He was a football referee where he also served as deputy chairman of the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA), a delegate and coach for the Uganda Athletics and the Jinja Netball Club.

Former administrator Christopher Azuba collapsed and fell at his home on Tuesday morning.

Azuba, 56, was part of the team that continuously negotiated Uganda's associate status during his time as UCA secretary general in the 90s, deputised Ivan Kyayonka as chairman UCA in 2000 and also played for Tornado.

A mechanical engineer by profession, Azuba who spent much of his cricket life as an umpire from the 80s to 2009 is survived by a boy and girl.

His widowed wife Margaret Azuba is a sister to golfer Monica Ntege.
