The media has been encouraged to speak out of the ills in the community and do what is right if they are to have an impact in the society.

Faith Katana, the private secretary to the President in charge of social affairs and education, gave the encouragement while delivering her key note address at the Vision Christian Fellowship media dinner that took place at Silver Springs Hotel on Friday.

"Take courage, speak out and do what is right. Speak about it and do something about it. Be effective, rise up and know yourself," said Katana who said that the media has a bigger role to play in changing society and making this country (Uganda) a better place.

She challenged them to obey God and bring his style in their workplace rather than defiling society and becoming people of excuses for not doing what they are supposed to do.

Chief guest Gad Gasatura, former legislator and a member of the Vision Group board noted that the media should not be doing what society wants but what the society needs as a means of building it.

"You should understand the gravity of your word. You can create peace or war; you can make people work or steal. Your word reaches millions. May God use you and your influence to reach out to people, teach them and have positive influence," he said.
