FUFA is hoping to secure a universal date where President Museveni will host and appreciate the players

FUFA president Moses Magogo has revealed that Uganda Cranes players will receive their Golden Jubilee medals from President Yoweri Museveni.

At the 54th Independence celebrations in Luuka District, national players, past and present, current and former FUFA officials alive and deceased staff were not decorated with medals.

Magogo explained that because the players returned from World Cup qualifier against Ghana in Tamale late last week, they could not make it in time for the function.

"Some professional players did not return to Kampala. They connected back to their respective bases. Those who came back arrived at about 4am on Sunday and could not make it to receive their medals," Magogo said in response to the media concerns of why the players did not appear to pick their medals.

"There is communication to us where the President will meet the players and if it happens, it will be the time. Otherwise, we are working on it," he added about a number of players who missed the moment.

Late goalkeeper Abel Dhaira, former FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa and Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic were honoured.

While speaking to the press at FUFA's weekly press conference on Wednesday, Magogo said that his administration is battling to secure a universal date where President Museveni, who he credited for Uganda Cranes achievements, will host and appreciate the players.

He praised Museveni in particular for moral and financial assistance every time the federation has asked him to support the national team cause.

"Let every Ugandan celebrate in their own way. As FUFA we welcome every celebration. Let it be giving medals or in any other way. The players did not pick their medals because they were simply late for the function," Magogo explained.

Micho has switched his focus to preparing the team for the next 2018 World Cup qualifier against Congo Brazzaville on November 12th.
