It might have been expected but that doesn't make it any less special.

The City Oilers claimed the 2016 FIBA Africa Zone V Championship after a 72-49 blowout of Kenyan champions Ulinzi in Friday's tournament final in Dar es Salaam that was the predictable climax to a thoroughly dominant campaign for Mandy Juruni's side.

Jimmy Enabu was named Zone V MVP after snatching a team-high 17 points in the championship-game, which was the second meeting of the two sides in five days.

The Oilers thrashed Ulinzi 93-55 in the first clash and the Kenyans (like everyone the Ugandan champions faced in Tanzania) had no answers at the second time of asking, falling behind 9-2 in the first five minutes and never recovering.

Kami Kabange snatched 17 and nine rebounds for the Oilers, while James Okello and Landry Ndikumana scored 13 and 12 points respectively. Erick Mitoro was the only Ulinzi player in double figures, with a game-high 18 points.

The Oilers have improved their position every year over the last three editions, starting with their first runners up finish in 2014. Last year, they lost a thrilling final by two points to Gezira and after the Egyptians opted out of this year's tournament, there was only one candidate for the title.

The Oilers become the second Ugandan team to win the regional basketball tournament, which was known as the East and Central African championship when John Simbwa's Falcons won it 2001.

It also means the Oilers qualify for the African Club Championship, due December in Egypt.
