Holding centre for illegal immigrants nears completion

The centre cost over sh100m and will accommodate around 40 people

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is nearing the completion of a holding centre for illegal immigrants arrested in Uganda for failure to have valid work and visa documents.

The centre which is housed at the ministry's offices along Jinja Road in Kampala cost over sh100m and will accommodate around 40 people.

The head of inspection and investigation Simon Mundeyi said it is not necessary to detain illegal immigrants with other suspects of criminal offences in Police cells.

"The facility is nearing completion. We changed the specifications of the building" Mundeyi said.
