Free internet access for Kampala, Entebbe starts Saturday

More areas are expected to be connected in the next financial year

Ministry of ICT and National Guidance through its mandated agency National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) has commenced the trial provision of free wireless access to internet in the Kampala Central Business District and parts of Entebbe effective 1st October.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kampala, ICT minister Frank Tumwebaze said the access will be possible only between 6pm to 6am during weekdays and from 3pm to 6am during weekends.

More areas are expected to be connected in the next financial year.

Government injected over $100m (sh330b) in the construction of the National Data Transmission Backbone Infrastructure.
