Man dies after excessive drinking of local brew

According to Ebugu, Omaria had made it a habit to overly drink without eating anything thereafter.

Shock gripped residents of Amen ‘A’ parish in Pamba Eastern Division, Soroti Municipality when they woke up to find one of them dead in a grass thatched hut.

The deceased man, in his early sixties, only identified as one Omaria, a bicycle repairer around Pamba market, is believed to have died during the wee hours of Wednesday night, after excessive drinking of the local brew (Ajon) on an empty stomach.

Speaking to the newvision, Selestino Ebugu, 60, one of the deceased’s friend, explained that Omaria after his last binge drinking with another friend only also identified as Opeju at around eleven o’clock last night staggered several times as he attempted to rush to his home to have a rest.

According to Ebugu, Omaria had made it a habit to overly drink without eating anything thereafter.

Meanwhile some of the saddened residents and onlookers expressed mixed reactions over Omaria’s death incident.

Some of them faulted close relatives of the deceased for failing to provide food for their own as they noted that the deceased could have died of hunger.

Omaria’s body was left laying helpless in the grass thatched hut awaiting police.
