Anguyo, Mwanja top Stanbic Golf Day tournament

Anguyo beat his closest rival Depo Akope who finished second by six strokes, consequently winning himself the biggest share of sh15m staked by the bankers.

Professional golfer Denis Anguyo shot a closing round four-under-par 68 to win the Stanbic Golf Day tournament with 210 gross over three rounds at Kitante on Thursday.

Anguyo beat his closest rival Depo Akope who finished second by six strokes, consequently winning himself the biggest share of sh15m staked by the bankers.

The towering golfer shot two eagles in the final two rounds on the par 5 hole-number-one to win an overall six-under, to claim his first victory this year.

Phillip Kasozi (218) finished third with Silver Opio and Herman Mutaawe tying in fourth while Fred Wanzala and Gerald Kabuye tied in fifth on 223 gross.

In the amateurs event of the same tournament played on Friday, national team golfer Becca Mwanja shot a career five-under-par 67 to emerge top of a strong filed of over 100 golfers.

Mwanja hit five birdies and one bogey en-route to winning a trophy and a golf bag having returned 41 stable ford points.

Jenina Nasimolo was also in fine form on the day returning the same points to win the ladies category.

The amateurs action was spiced up by a hole-in-one by Jimmy Byaruhanga on the par 3 hole number 4. Byaruhanga was in the company of Dr. Nsanze, Hillary Ndugutse and Ernest Rukundo when he achieved the rare feat.

In the highly contested one-day event Hasan Kiyemba (36 points) beat Michael Tumusiime on count-back to claim the Group A top prize where Richar Mwami finished third.

Dan Kalimuzo was the best in Group B with 40 points with Edward Kabuchu and Elly Tumwine finishing on 37 and 36 points respectively.

Alex Nkuyahaga, Zhang Jia Zhou and Collins Masaba were the top players in Group C with 37 and 35 points each respectively.

In the ladies category, Petra Nalwoga (35pts) emerged top beating Gloria Mbaguta and Eva Magala (32pts) by 3 points in the ladies Group A, while Njeri Kinyoho was the best in Group B on 38 points, six more than Jovia Otim and Bridget Nakamoga who finished with 32.

The tournament had earlier during the day been teed off by Stanbic head of Corporate Investment Banking Edwin Mucai.

He was later joined by other staff led by Head of Personal and Business Banking Kevin Wingfields at the prize ceremony in the night.
