Police hail USPA road safety campaign

USPA members, sponsors and locals assembled in Buwama Sub-County on Saturday to sensitise the public about safe road usage so as to accidents

Buwama OC of Traffic, Richard has said that the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) road safety campaign will help a lot in preventing accidents in the area.

Wabwire made the remarks at the climax of the campaign on Saturday in Buwama town.

"We want to thank the organizers and their sponsors for coming up with such a campaign. It will help our people and also it will reduce on the number of road accidents in the area,"Wabwire stated.

They also painted a zebra crossing in Buwama town. Thereafter, they played a series of football matches involving four teams; USPA, Standard Chartered Bank, boda boda and taxi drivers.  

But the Bawuma -Kayabwe stage drivers defeated USPA 1-0 in the final to win a trophy that was handled to them by OC traffic Richard Wabwire.

City Tyres and Standard Chartered Bank have been the main sponsors of the campaign for the past ten years. KCCA FC and UNRA have also joined the campaign which began after four USPA executive members; Simon Peter Ekarot, Leo Kabunga, Kenneth Matovu and Francis Batte Jr. perished in a road accident in Lugazi in 2001.
