Brian Kasirye wins Tamil Sangam, East Africa Badminton Challenge title

Sep 12, 2016

He had earlier beaten Kenya’s seed-one Joseph Githithu (18-21, 21-18, 21-15) to book a slot in the finals.

The Under 19 All Africa Badminton Champion silver medalist Brian Kasirye was on top of his game as he put an end to Daniel Mihigo's dominancy at the local scene.

The duo met at the inaugural Tamil Sangam, East Africa Badminton Challenge men's final at Lugogo on Sunday. Kasirye beat Mihigo (21-17) in a decisive set in a tightly contest final to take the men's open category title.

"I was still unhappy following my defeat in Morocco after we were beaten in the final but still I learnt a lot from that tournament and that has helped me beat senior players to the title," Kasirye said.

He had earlier beaten Kenya's seed-one Joseph Githithu (18-21, 21-18, 21-15) to book a slot in the finals.

In the other senior games, Uganda's best Shamim Bangi made her way to victory after beating Aisha Nakiyemba 21-14, 21-12 at the same venue.
