Police in Mukono district have arrested a 30-year-old man said to have hacked his pregnant wife to death.

District Police Commander Fred Ahimbisibwe identified the suspect as Jonathan Kagula and the deceased as Florence Nakafo.

The couple have been residents of Kavule village, Nakisunga sub-county in Mukono.

Ahimbisibwe said Kagula was handed over to police by residents after he reportedly told them he had killed his wife deep in the night over infidelity.

The suspect is said to have accused his wife of cheating on him with their neighbor only identified as Tom.

On the evening of the killing, a fight is understood to have broken out between the two.

Reason?  Kagula had long warned his wife not to collect tomatoes from Tom but this evening, when he returned home, he found out that she had gone ahead and got tomatoes from the neighbor.

Later that night, Kavule village chairman, Godfrey Mukasa said he was called b ylocals at 2.00am and told of Nakafo's murder.

When Mukasa got to the scene of crime in Kagula's house, he found the body lying in a pool of blood and called police.

Kagula was saved by Seeta-Nazigo police officers from a mob that wanted to beat him to death too after learning what he had done. He was later transferred to Mukono Police Station as investigations continue. He faces charged of murder.
