StanChart commits to USPA's Road Safety campaign

City Tyres are the other partners in the campaign designed to spread the message of road safety to the public

The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) annual Road Safety Campaign due 17th September today got a boost as Standard Chartered Bank offered sh5m towards the event.

 

This is the ninth year running that Standard Chartered is partnering with USPA by contributing towards the event and the bank committed further continued support to the cause.

This year's road safety awareness campaign will be held in Buwama town council on the Kampala-Masaka Highway which has of recent had several deadly motor accidents.

Unveiling the offer, Standard Chartered head of corporate affairs, brand and marketing Hellen Nangozi said "As a bank we are very happy to join USPA in the continuity of its agenda of creating awareness about road carnage and help save the lives of Ugandans.

"Everyone has a role to play to reduce road accidents. Uganda is one of the countries with the highest rate of road accidents which is not a good reputation for the country".

USPA president Sabiiti Muwanga lauded the bank as a reliable partner in the fight against road carnage and noted that KCCA FC and UNRA are also joining the cause.

"I thank God because Standard Chartered Bank has been handy in helping this cause," said Muwanga

The bank also contributed sh15m this week towards the construction of an intensive care unit at Nkozi Hospital along the Kampala Masaka Highway.

The annual event is held in memory of USPA members Leo Kabunga, Kenneth Matovu, Simon Peter Ekarot and Francis Batte who perished in a road accident in 2001.
