Police have blocked a demonstration by the artists protesting government's proposal to redevelop Uganda National Theatre.

Artist Phillip Luswata first staged a one-man demonstration but was picked by Police to the Central Police Station.

Southern Regional Police Commander, Geoffrey Kayeebwa, said Luswata had not sought permission from the Inspector General of Police rendering his demo illegal.

Upon receiving news of Luswata's arrest, artists rushed to CPS with placards demanding that government drops the redevelopment plan of the facility.

Government is seeking for a public-private partnership to redevelop the theatre into a much bigger and modern facility.
